XXI INTERGRAF International Security Printers Conference and Exhibition

16.05.2006

The XXI INTERGRAF International Security Printers Conference and Exhibition was held from 16-19 May, 2006, in Rhodes, Greece. The delegation of EDAPS Consortium, which is an INTERGRAF associated member, participated in this important international forum. Eight hundred and seven delegates from 48 countries took part in the event and 96 exhibit booths were presented at the exhibition.

Great attention was paid to enhancing the security of documents. The participants of the conference studied the main trends of security elements development, holographic security and specific features of utilizing polycarbonate base and intaglio printing on documents.

New document manufacturing technologies are being constantly developed in our changing world. Some materials which had been considered unique have become more widely available and can be used by some dubious or unlawful manufacturers. Because of these concerns security development of printing and sources of information is very important.

At the forum participants studied operational experience of the manufacturing and security of banknotes, identity documents and especially passports. The important role of ICAO and the corresponding EC commissions should be mentioned here. It was noted that as of today 40 countries are already in the process of integrating biometric data into identity documents. ICAO has proposed to all 188 member-countries to fulfill this work until April 1, 2010.

At this key conference and exhibition the delegates of the EDAPS Consortium received answers to some of their urgent questions, exchanged operational experience with colleagues and made sure that Ukraine (owing to the achievements of the EDAPS Consortium) already possessed all the best technologies which equal the foreign equivalents in manufacturing of identity documents and passports.
