The General Assembly of INTERPOL has Unanimously Approved the EDAPS Consortium as the Manufacturer of Electronic Passports for the INTERPOL Staff

THE REPUBLIC of SINGAPORE – on October 13 the General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) unanimously approved Ukrainian EDAPS Consortium as the manufacturer of an electronic passport for the INTERPOL staff.
On October 11-15, 2009 the 78th General Assembly of INTERPOL covering the issues of international security is being held in Singapore. Around 800 delegates from 153 countries, including 60 ministers of internal affairs, foreign affairs, justice are participating in its work. The Ukrainian delegation is represented at the Assembly by Yuri Lutsenko, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Vasiliy Gritsak, People’s Deputy of Ukraine, Chairman of the Subcommittee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement, Vsevolod Mytsyk, Chargé d’Affaires A.I. of Ukraine in the Republic of Singapore, the EDAPS Consortium.

On October 13 the General Assembly unanimously approved the prototype e-passport developed by the Ukrainian EDAPS Consortium. From that moment EDAPS has officially commenced the implementation of the electronic passport and ID card for the INTERPOL staff.

During two session days of the General Assembly the EDAPS Consortium has produced and handed the most up-to-date biometric e-passports to the INTERPOL President Khoo Boon Hui, Secretary General of INTERPOL Ronald K. Noble and members of the INTERPOL Executive Committee. The registration of personal data of the Heads of 187 INTERPOL National Bureaus for the manufacture of passports has been already started. The INTERPOL e-passport does not have any analogues in the world – it is the most secure and high tech identification document. The e-passport developed for the first time for INTERPOL by the EDAPS Consortium has a range of security features, including a polycarbonate data page, laser engraving, laser perforation, holographic, micrographic and optical security elements, watermarks and electronic microchip for recording biometric data of the passport holder.
At the day of opening of the General Assembly the INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble attended the exhibition booth of the EDAPS Consortium and extended greetings to the Ukrainian delegation. Vasiliy Gritsak, People’s Deputy of Ukraine, delivered his speech at the meeting of the General Assembly. The parliamentarian handed the official message from the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Vladimir Litvin to INTERPOL General Secretary Ronald K. Noble and INTERPOL President Khoo Boon Hui. The message from Vladimir Litvin reads that Ronald K. Noble is awarded with a commendation letter “for a major personal contribution into coordination of international cooperation in combating crimes, for the development of fruitful international dialogue in the field of law enforcement and lawmaking, for the assistance in promoting the international image of Ukraine”.
It has been previously reported that on September 21, 2009 at the 5-th Symposium of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) the INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble for the first time officially announced that the Ukrainian EDAPS Consortium was chosen as a developer and manufacturer of the first-ever INTERPOL electronic passport. At its General Assembly in October INTERPOL has completed the procedure for approval of the EDAPS Consortium as the manufacturer of the e-passport of a staff member of this International Organization.
